Copenhagen, Denmark

Accomodation
There is a substantial shortage of student accomodation in Copenhagen, so be sure to apply for your room as soon as possible after you received the documents. Rents are high, around 500 euros per month, depending on location and type of room. It is possible to apply for rent subsidy if you have your own kitchen, ask the housing department for more information.

Leisure
A-vej is a good place to find cheap beer and to integrate with the Danish students. It opens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, in the afternoons you can get free coffee and tea.

University
The faculty of LIFE sciences is part of the University of Copenhagen and located in Frederiksberg, a community which is part of the greater Copenhagen area. The faculty is near the Frederiksberg metro station and the Frederiksberg shopping centre.
The study methods here involves a lot of literature reading, and less lectures (max. 3 days per week). Some courses are e-learning courses, without any lectures.

Shopping
Second hand markets are quite common in Copenhagen, and you can find very cheap clothes, kitchen ware etc. Every saturday morning between May and October there is a second hand market near Norrebro station and near the Frederiksberg townhall.

Travelling

Transport
Bicycles are very common in Copenhagen, as it is a cheap and fast way to travel around. There are many cycling lanes which makes it a good city to cycle. The best way to buy one is asking around and check sladderspalten for any offers. You can also send an e-mail to the international e-maillist to ask if anyone wants to sell a bike. Be carefull when buying a second hand bicycle, make sure it is not broken. There are some special rules for cycling in CPH, like signing when you want to stop. Generally you have to take care when cycling, as it is a crowded city and people sometimes cross the cycling lane without looking out.
The metro is also a good and fast means of transport, it takes you to the airport in 20 minutes from Islands Brygge.
